Read Write Reflect

The clock is ticking to IELTS time. We need to brush up on our reading and writing skills more than ever. Of course we know listening and speaking are also important - but the literacy skills are the main areas of challenge here at the college.

This will be a fun way to communicate what we are reading and writing in our free time to support this program.

OK - who is first? What is something interesting you have been reading about?

  1. hi Mr. Steve

first let me thank you for this great idea and opportunity. I am glad to be the 1st. I've read about the "Logic Gates" due to the MATRX class's needs.
It was nice to read because there where a lot of new words and information.
The link for the site I've read is:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logic_gate

I got it from the Google search engine. As you guys will find there is a lot of information and new words to learn.

As Mr. Joseva said before" You are engineering students you have to keep reading all the new stuff to increase your knowledge to be better engineer and human been".
So I guess from my point of view it would be better if we connect our engineering study to our English reading studies, because there is a lot of new hard words to read. Also the engineering notes would be more difficult to read.
So I don't know what is your opinion.

  2. The Summary:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logic_gate
    --------------------------------------------

The article I’ve read before was about the logic gates as I said before. I can summaries it when I said that there are seven logic gates. They are AND, OR, NOT, NAND, NOR, XOR and XNOR. They are almost unlike each other.

The site talked about the Truth table, Background, Symbols, De Morgan equivalent symbols, Storage of bits, Three-state logic gates, Miscellaneous, History and development, Implementations and References

Some of the logic gates are the opposite of the others. The is also a truth table where you can find when the circuit will be on or off by using the binary code (0\1) method. Also there are the distinctive shapes, rectangular shapes, Boolean algebra between two points for each gate.

This was my summary for today.

  3. Moreover, as the following guys said, I'm so happy too. This activity is one of your different activities and I think you have more for us.

firstly, I looked for the Binory codes when I was 16 years old.. I made a sentence " I Love you " by using this code, so I'm familiar with it.

and for now, I'm going to find something different to read.

maybe about the Malaria in Mozambique and Africa

Iran had launched what it described as its first satellite produced domestically as part of an effort to build a space industry. It also came soon after President Obama struck a conciliatory tone toward Iran, conditionally offering dialogue after years of increasing tension over fears that Tehran wants to develop nuclear missiles — which Iran’s leaders deny. IRNA said, and was sent into space as a “data-processing satellite project” that began in March 2005 as “the first practical step toward acquiring national space technology.” They have also been waiting to see how the new American president will pursue his overtures, designed to halt Iran’s uranium enrichment program. On Wednesday, the group of nations dealing with the Iran issue meet in Frankfurt, Germany, for its first talks since Mr. Obama took office.

  5. Logic gates
    http://www.kpsec.freeuk.com/gates.htm

logic gates are the circuits which have two or more input and one output signals. This logic gates can be found in the integrated circuits (IC). We have 8 types of the logic gates:

    • Not ( Inverter)
    • And
    • Or
    • Nand
    • Nor
    • Xor
    • Xnor
    • Buffer

Logic gates process a true and false signal with +v which it represent the true and it process a false signal with 0v. The logic gates can be combined in so different types of gates combined to consist on gate that produces different signals

  11. "Mozambique Malaria"

there are four species of humand malaria ( Plasmoduim Falciparum, Plasmodium Vivax, Plasmodium Ovale, and Plasmodium Malariae).

It causes an estimated 2.7 million deaths per yer,in the world.

there is 90% of malaria in Frica.

    something interesting;

A* How do we get malaria?..

we as a human get malaria from the bite of a malaria-infected mosquito.

The effects of malaria appear like, fevor and flu-like illness, including shaking chills, headache, muscle aches and tiredness. On the other hand, the sickness appears usual after 10 days to 4 weeks.

After all, we can be cured with prescription drugs.
